2026 Brisbane Paediatric Airway Course
This two day intensive course is an interactive update on paediatric airway and life support management for the ENT surgeon. Aimed of both the registrar and consultant especially those without tertiary paediatric appointments. The course involves simulation, skills stations and live and cadaveric animal work. Small group lectures and demonstrations by an expert faculty will allow participants to acquire advanced airway skills.
Day 1: Participants will spend 4 hours in the simulation laboratory and 4 hours in the animal lab. Small group discussions will be provided in both settings. While in the animal laboratory, participants will have the opportunity to practice tracheostomy on an anaesthetised spontaneously breathing rabbit, under the watchful eye of a paediatric anaesthetist and surgeon. Open airway surgery will be discussed and taught on a cadaveric animal. In the simulation laboratory skill stations and real time simulation scenarios involving paediatric life support and paediatric airway management will be taught using high fidelity mannequins.
Day 2: Lectures and case studies will provide an overview of paediatric airway conditions. An Australasian faculty will cover sleep disordered breathing, neonatal and infantile stridor, diagnosis and management of common and unusual airway disorders. Management of airway disorders often require an multidisciplinary approach and lectures will include updates from anaesthetic and respiratory specialists.
